Yogyakarta, August 10, 2025 – The Master's (S2) and Doctoral (S3) Programs in Elementary Education, Faculty of Education, Yogyakarta State University, held the New Student Campus Life Introduction (PKKMB) event for the 2025/2026 Academic Year. This event was held in a hybrid format and was attended by all new S2 and S3 students.

This PKKMB event was attended by the faculty of the Master's and Doctoral programs in Elementary Education. Dan, it was officially opened by the Head of the Department of Elementary Education Study Program, Dr. Fery Muhamad Firdaus, M.Pd., who in his speech stated that postgraduate students are expected to be able to develop academic competence and also become drivers of innovation in the field of elementary education. "UNY postgraduate students must be ready to become researchers, educators, and practitioners who are able to make a real contribution to the progress of elementary education in Indonesia. "This PKKMB is the first step in getting to know the academic culture and the values upheld by the university," he said.

The PKKMB activity series includes an introduction to the study program's vision, mission, and curriculum, academic ethics training, information on campus services and facilities, and discussions with lecturers. Through this activity, it is hoped that new students will be able to understand the learning system, academic culture, and research directions they will pursue during their studies.

The Head of the Master's Program in Elementary Education, Dr. Firmansyah, M.Pd., added that PKKMB is not only a means of orientation but also a platform for building academic networks. "We encourage students to be active in research, scientific publications, and community service. Thus, UNY postgraduate graduates not only have academic excellence but also make an impact on the wider community," he explained.

Next, the Head of the Doctoral Program in Elementary Education, Dr. Sekar Purbarini Kawuryan, M.Pd. In her explanation of the material regarding the Assessment and Publication System, she emphasised the importance of research orientation and the scientific contribution of doctoral students. "The Doctoral Program in Elementary Education prepares students to become scientists and researchers of integrity. We hope that doctoral students can produce research that has a wide impact, not only academically, but also in the practice of basic education in society. Therefore, from the outset, students must have a strong commitment to developing high-quality and sustainable research," he explained.

The event went smoothly and concluded with an introduction session for new students. The presence of these new postgraduate students is expected to further strengthen the commitment of the Elementary Education Study Program at FIP UNY in producing outstanding, characterful graduates who are able to meet the challenges of education in the global era.
